Message of respect

FERGUS Finlay (Opinion, Oct 25) writes: “Michael D Higgins has stood for equality and fairness, in Ireland and around the world, every day of his working life.” Indeed he has.

He has also proudly worn on his lapel the John Rocha-designed “Know-Racism” pin which its foreign-born designer described as symbolising that “the human race has so much to share”.

By displaying this pin, Michael D Higgins sends a clear message to our sizeable immigrant/foreign-born population that they are welcome here and will be treated with warmth and respect.
