Good priests forgotten in attacks on Church

IT IS only right and proper that the failures of bishops and others should be highlighted and they be held to account for not dealing responsibly with preventing the abuse of young people and correcting abuses when they occurred.

However, a consequence of this saga in the revelation of the failures of church leaders has generated into a frenzy of emotive, one-sided, distorted criticism of the Catholic church in the media, practically castigating the church as being a danger to society.

This is a very dangerous development. Priests and religious have been and are attacked and abused in public.

It reminds one of what happened in Germany in the 1930s when a virulent and cruel campaign by the Nazis against the Jews was conducted which in time brought terrible consequences for millions of good and innocent Jewish families.

In the present debacle, good people like Fr Peter McVerry, Sr Consilio, Sr Stan, and Bro Jerome Kelly representing to a greater or less degree the 95% of good and faithful Catholic religious and priests are forgotten as they go about their 24/7 work to bring hope, love and comfort to people’s lives.
