Call to ban burka simply ludicrous

FORMER lord mayor Joe O’Callaghan has made a call for the banning of the burka and of the hoodie.

It would be more pertinent, given the recent Cloyne Report, if the former Lord Mayor could expend his energies actively supporting survivors of institutional abuse, be it via the agencies of state or church, to show that he is actively concerned and directly involved with protecting all our children.

That confrontation with the truth is one of the biggest and most serious problems facing the Irish people at this time, and requires leadership at every level of society to fully engage with it.

Instead he devotes his time to ludicrous claims regarding Muslim peoples, youth fashion and the elderly, and calls for legislation to ban items of clothing on the basis of what has been proven to be facetious misconceptions.
