Geography lesson
How will any person educated in Ireland after 2012 be able to read and interpret them if the decision to remove geography from the core curriculum of the revised Junior Cert goes ahead?
Geography provides students with key attributes and skills that are essential for their future participation in society: critical thinking and advanced analytical skills; the ability to understand and interpret complex data; a team-working capability; and an understanding of physical, socio-economic environments.
The decision by the NCCA to remove geography from the core curriculum is deeply worrying.
Do parents realise what is going to be missing from their children’s education post 2012?
A “module” here and there does justice to no subject and does not provide the skills and knowledge required for education beyond Junior Cert.
