Bad dog science

YOUR article yesterday on Irish and polar bears was very interesting but includes some “bad science”.

“Mating opportunities for the two distinct species” (with viable offspring) means that they are not distinct. The ability to mate successfully is the main definition of a species. Chihuauas and Wolfhounds are both dogs, despite the physical and lifestyle differences.
