Council making mess with refuse move

THE news that Cork City Council has agreed to sell its refuse collection to Country Clean, highlights the failings of the public service when compared to private enterprise.

The figures supplied in your article suggest that during 2010, there were 15,000 customers paying on average €310 a year to the Council.

Those entitled to the waiver still had to pay €6 twice a month and there were 12,000 of those. So, the city council would still have taken in about €6.5 million to run the business.
