Church must stop political party gate collections

I AM writing this letter in response to the regular presence of political parties at church gate collections.

I consider myself a Christian and have therefore no bias against the church. However, I find this practice a most hypocritical and backward one. As God is neither a Fine Gael nor a Fianna Fáil man, I feel that political parties have no place at church gate collections.

I wonder where this money goes? Is it to fund the excessive poster campaigns which pollute our streets or is it to fund a night of drinking at the Ard Fhéis of the party in question? I feel that it is most wrong on the part of the church to allow this and I would ask that they put a stop to it.

Charities which assist people with illnesses, or people living in poverty are much more deserving of our support than any political party.
