A new golden circle is formed

I THOUGHT this new government was meant to be a break with the past?

Yet, not even a week into its term there is a new golden circle is being formed of “opinion shapers” who have access to the highest level of government to push their agenda through the report A Blueprint for Ireland’s Recovery’ which its authors say the contents should be kept “secret”, until the government engages with them.

This new golden circle contains many people, like John Bruton, Ray MacSharry, Dick Spring, Peter Sutherland, Pat Cox and Brendan Tuohy, who are being paid massive pensions by the taxpayer.

If these people are so concerned about the cost of running Ireland, then why don’t they all lead by example and reduce their own taxpayer-funded pensions to the €60,000 cap recommended in the “showing leadership” section on page 20 of the Programme for Government or are they just hypocrites who prefer to expect others to make sacrifices they themselves refuse to.
