Our taxing times

WITH the pressure now from the EU to change our corporate tax rate, how many readers remember Declan Ganley warning us that this would happen under the Lisbon Treaty.

But he was shouted down by our then Foreign Minister. Micheál Martin told us that Lisbon II was a brand new treaty.

In June 2009, Martin said there were, “cast iron safeguards built in to allay Irish concerns” on our corporate tax rate.

Would it be impertinent of us to ask Martin where these “undertakings” and “safeguards” have gone?
