Get back to real issues

AS part of your coverage of the non-issue of women in cabinet you published an article by Mary Regan on March 12.

Get back to real issues

Ms Regan claims that the Taoiseach and Tánaiste overlooked women in favour of men. To suggest that they deliberately chose men over better qualified women is rubbish. If sexism influenced their decisions it more than likely worked against men. Brian Hayes and Fergus O’Dowd are among the best qualified TDs for ministerial office.

However, their merits had to be overlooked to ensure a woman got a ministry. Now we can only hope that all ministers, male and female, ignore this nonsense about gender balance and concentrate on solving the problems with the public finances.
