Get ready for the political U-turns

NEGOTIATORS on both sides have described the talks as “friendly”. Isn’t that reassuring?

Get ready for the political U-turns

Sounds like a communique from two opposing generals in a war zone. But no, this is the best we have heard so far from representatives of two political parties who share little or no common ground.

On Thursday, we heard the groundwork being set for the plethora of U-turns that are just around the corner.

After the latest briefing (I’ve lost count of all the previous briefings) from the Central Bank governor, the Department of Finance and the NTMA, Labour Finance Spokeswoman, Joan Burton said: “It’s certainly very sobering; the presentation that we’ve been listening to. We knew that the banking situation was very serious. I think the presentation by the officials just underlines it and emphasises it again”.

How often did she need to be told by some official or other that the country is broke?

Incredible cods-wallop from a likely member of a new frontbench.
