Martin’s poisoned chalice

I AM sure that every Corkonian is puffed with pride that one of their own has been chosen as the one to lead Fianna Fáil out of the wilderness.

Does Micheál Martin realise that one of his first tasks will be to take several deep draughts of the poisoned chalice he has been handed? Frankly, I’m equally certain that even his stint as Minister for Health will not help him to find the antidote. On the bright side, there will be a different cup of woe to be quaffed by the next batch of incoming TDs — hopefully available in the Dáil bar.
