Limit rewards for our politicians

I REFER to the recent Irish Examiner article by Ryle Dwyer (Irish Examiner, January 1) on EU/IMF bailout.

Fianna Fáil and the Green Party have unilaterally imposed upon Irish taxpayers the financial terms of the EU/IMF bailout agreement without submitting it to either the Dáil for approval, as specified in the Constitution, or to the Irish citizens via election/referendum.

If the Government has the power to impose such financial constraints on Irish citizens, then why can’t the Government impose similar financial constraints on that select group of Irish citizens known as politicians?
