Remember, abortion never saves a life

I SUPPORT the call of pro-life groups for an honest debate on abortion in the wake of the European Court of Human Right’s (ECHR) ruling in favour of Woman C, who feared that her cancer would come back if she didn’t abort her baby.

Remember, abortion never saves a life

Such was the woman’s stated fear. However, there was no medical evidence to support this. And yet the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) peddled the misleading argument that the woman should be allowed have her unborn baby killed in Ireland because the pregnancy threatened her life.

So now the IFPA expects us to believe that pregnancy causes cancer or cancer recurrence? It is deplorable that having failed to shake the pro-life majority in this country, the pro-abortionists would resort to exploiting heart-rending cases and distorting the facts to deceive the public and to further their agenda.

The truth is that even if the woman’s cancer did recur, she could have availed of life-saving medical treatment in Ireland as is the case for women who suffer from the potentially life-threatening conditions such as cervical cancer, ectopic pregnancy and pre-eclampsia. Medical treatment in order to save the life of the mother and in which the baby tragically but unintentionally dies as a result, is not abortion. This is because the intention was never to kill the baby.

Abortion never saves a life. It just kills an innocent baby.
