We need your help to make CF centre a reality

THE recent announcement of the opening of the new cystic fibrosis facilities in Beaument Hospital and the news that the contract for new CF facilities in St Vincents has been signed is broadly welcomed by the CF community.

These life-changing facilities will go a long way in the management of cystic fibrosis in both hospitals.

Progress is also being made in Ireland’s second-largest Centre for the treatment of cystic fibrosis in Cork University Hospital. A new Adult CF Clinic will open in March 2011, the location of the Protected Beds for Adult CF patients has been identified in a vacated ward in the hospital and construction work will start in 2011. These facilities will cost €3,000,000 which is being provided by Build4Life/Cystic Fibrosis. In January 2011 we will launch Build4Life4Kids to address the appalling lack of facilities for children with cystic fibrosis attending CUH.

As Build4Life/Cystic Fibrosis is the only charity providing funding for these capital projects and is the only charity negotiating with the management of CUH to procure these facilities we are now appealing to the public to consider us as their charity of choice this Christmas and their charity of the year for 2011. Without your help we will not succeed in providing a safe environment for adults and children with cystic fibrosis attending CUH.
