COMMENTS by several councillors at a recent ‘emergency’ meeting on Shannon airport revealed their lack of understanding and competence.

Their criticism of Aer Lingus is unfounded. They claimed the airline had inflicted “swingeing cuts” when in fact it has expanded services and there are suggestions that new services to Gatwick and Charles de Gaulle airports may be introduced soon.

Inviting Ryanair back to the table would probably be regarded as a major blunder because it has no interest in retaining a decent level of service given that Shannon represents a very small segment of its market.
