National government is best way to face crisis
What should have been done two years ago when the crisis broke can be achieved democratically at the next general election when all responsible candidates should present themselves on the basis that, if elected, they would support the prospect of a national government for the duration of the next Dáil.
Obviously, individual candidates and political parties would need to declare at selection conventions their intention or otherwise to support the idea – thereby offering genuine choice to the electorate.
It’s high time we were afforded an opportunity to have our nation ruled in truly democratic fashion, especially in view of dire circumstances in which we find ourselves and from which it may take an entire generation to recover.
