YOUR columnist Ivan Yates (September 30) deserves every support for his advocacy of a national government at this time of the worst crisis in the history of the state.

WHATEVER happened to the nation’s tried and trusted friend — the national loan — as a means of providing funds for infrastructural development while at the same time creating a secure investment opportunity bearing a reasonable return to subscribers?

YOUR editorial on the Government’s somersault on Cork Airport funding was very much to the point, but did not go far enough (Irish Examiner, February 21).

NOW that the “loss” and “cross-subsidisation” myths have effectively been refuted, it’s time for constructive debate on the inequity of compulsory (third party) motor insurance.
