Our ‘Pearl Harbour’ – with a difference

LABOUR spokesperson on finance Joan Burton mentioned on Black Thursday, September 30, 2010 that “the date of 29 September 2008 is as steeped in infamy in Ireland’s history as Pearl Harbour was for the generation of Americans led by President Franklin Roosevelt”.

Our ‘Pearl Harbour’ – with a difference

Speaking of Pearl Harbour, which happened on December 7, 1941, our Pearl Harbour will be delivered on budget day, December 7, 2010.

The only difference between the attack by Japan on America in 1941 and budget day 2010 is that Ireland’s government is attacking its own citizens.

The war with Japan lasted four years. The budget cuts will take four years. It took two atomic bombs to end the war, but what will it take to end the budget cuts?

Whatever happens, hold on tight, we’re in for the ride of a lifetime.
