Mansergh’s omission

IN his vain attempt to justify the ridiculous salaries and expenses paid to politicians, Martin Mansergh (September 4) omitted one very relevant factor.

Mansergh’s omission

He did not mention, when comparing conditions in Ireland with those in Britain, that our TDs each represent between 25,000 and 27,000 people while their British counterparts each represent approximately 95,000 people.

Obviously we could do with about half the 166 TDs we have at present. When Mr Mansergh finds himself in a hole he should let the Board of Works do the digging.
