Parents should heed priest’s advice on Gardasil

I WISH to congratulate Fr Eamonn McCarthy for his inspiring letter (August 30) concerning the best way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases like HPV which is linked to cervical cancer.

The Gardasil vaccine isn’t the answer. It has never been proven to prevent cancer and may only replace one cause of cancer with another.

Neither has it been adequately tested on young girls.

Reports of bad side-effects, including deaths of teenagers, are frightening. The Government should call off the vaccination campaign immediately.

Fr McCarthy is saying what a lot of us have been saying for many years, and parents should follow his advice. Our society has been thwarting nature for far too long and everyone knows when you thwart nature it will eventually kick back violently.

Sex is for marriage only – that’s the natural law and God’s law. We can choose to ignore it, to thwart it, but it will eventually kick back violently. And that’s what’s happening today. The price our young people are paying is far too high. It’s time to change.

Parents should heed Fr McCarthy. They should not be afraid to challenge their children to cherish the health and freedom of chastity.

It is a matter of life and death.
