LGBT people deserve God’s support

Further to Fr Tom Ingoldsby’s letter (June 23) I thought it prudent to point out that “sodomy” (ie consensual homosexual acts) has been legal in Ireland since 1993, following the repeal of the Victorian Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

LGBT people deserve God’s support

What Fr Ingoldsby seems to have overlooked is that quite a number of gay, lesbian and bisexual people are themselves sincere Christians — and that many other Christian people (of many denominations) support their rights — including some clergy people.

Far from needing to beg God for a reprieve from vengeance (as per Fr Ingoldsby’s apocalyptic vision), there is a great need for Christian people to pray for God’s support, healing and comfort for LGBT people, as they face the struggles and prejudices that plague them every day.
