Of course some are but we all know that the great majority are very different. Most of us know that mothers are a primary influence on our lives and that we all owe them a great debt, one that we can repay by being good parents ourselves.

Maureen O’Connell from Galway was named as the Irish Mum of the Year yesterday and maybe we should celebrate her achievement by recognising the great contribution to our happiness made by all mothers.
