Kenny did not exclude ‘liberals’ from FG

TAKING issue with a single statement made by Enda Kenny regarding his view of Ireland as a “Celtic Christian nation”, Maurice Dockrell (Letters, June 17) says there is no place in Kenny’s Fine Gael for “liberals” like himself.

He says that under Richard Bruton, Fine Gael could rediscover a more “open-minded” view of Ireland.

Perhaps if Mr Dockrell were truly liberal, he would be open-minded enough to allow for a diversity of views – his being one, Mr Kenny’s being another.

I’m sure Mr Kenny has excluded no one from Fine Gael.

Or perhaps Mr Dockrell falls into the common trap of so many self-described liberals of the day in only being capable of respecting those “liberal” and “open-minded” views which, happily, completely coincide with his own.
