Online ‘serpent’ strikes our school

YOU have given us a four pages on sex trafficking over two days (June 8/9). While refraining from commenting directly on your choice of subject I ask you please to facilitate me in publicly expressing my horror at something that has happened here in Kinsale.

Online ‘serpent’ strikes our school

While crowds from all over descended on Garretstown strand last Sunday and the great majority of the local people, young and old, were participating in our parish eucharistic procession and adoration, vandalising perverts daubed the new part of our school with horrible pornographic graffiti.

The good parents and teachers gathered on bank holiday Monday to clean up the place and I just can’t sit here and not shout on their behalf.

Is this all-powerful global internet perverting our youth and our adults? Dear Lord enlighten me. I don’t know who on earth to turn to. Maybe someone would start a campaign to do to the epidemic of pornography and all the horrors that arise from it what was done in a simpler world to the evil of tobacco.

Professionals who know about these horrors please let your voices be heard. Scientists and technologists, I ask you is there some ingenuity, some software, some filter to curb the crawl of this serpent destroying the youth of the world? I don’t give a damn about the shouts of the libertarians.

Most mothers and fathers know nothing, I’m told, about the online experiences of their children.

I’m also told there is accumulating academic and therapeutic evidence of the harm and devastation traceable to this serpent now crawling in the garden of humanity.
