Risky hospitals

SIXTY years ago nearly every small town in Ireland had its own small hospital. In those days we never heard of MRSA.

Nowadays the official policy is to concentrate large numbers of patients in a small number of hospitals. The result is that larger populations of real people are at risk if something seriously goes wrong.

Is there a limit to the supposed efficiency of size?
