Brady’s refusal to stand down only adds to the hurt of abuse victims

IF it wasn’t so tragic, the position of Cardinal Brady would be laughable.

His stance only creates more hurt and he hasn’t learned much about justice in 35 years. How old does someone have to be to know the difference between right and wrong? While there are some good priests with true vocations, the Catholic Church nonetheless is a hierarchy based on power structures from local to global, from priest to pope.

It is this structure of power that’s at the root of it all and it will always have the propensity to abuse not only individuals and institutions, but will also continue to have a corrosive effect on society. Cardinal Brady is lacking in leadership and conviction and if he is not removed by the Pope, the state authorities should instigate proceedings to show all elements of a theocratic state are invalid.
