Senator’s attack on Pope rules him out of race

THE Church of Ireland community has provided this country with two excellent presidents to date.

Senator’s attack on Pope rules him out of race

Both Douglas Hyde and Erskine Childers distinguished and enhanced the office.

However, many of us would view with horror the prospect of Senator David Norris, the much-touted RTÉ candidate, as president.

Surely a degree of tolerance is a prerequisite for the job, a quality singularly lacking in Sen Norris.

One recalls with disgust his obscene name-calling of Pope Benedict as a Nazi. Given that a close relation of the Pope’s was subjected to the Nazi’s euthanasia policy and his father was bullied and abused by them, Senator Norris is clearly unfit for such a prestigious role. Given Ryan Tubridy’s less than inquisitorial interview with him on the Late Late Show (April 30), it would appear the senator definitely has friends in high broadcasting places. This of course gives him an unfair head start on other possible candidates.
