Conferring charge

A UCC spokesman says there will be “no element of profit” from the proposed conferring fee (April 15).

How can such a claim be made when UCC has failed to declare its income from conferrings, for example, photography and gown hire?

If the new fee will “cover the university’s costs”, then surely the aforementioned income is pure profit?
