E-car technology - Putting cart before horse is a mistake

The €5,000 grant and the exemption from motor vehicle registration tax for electronic cars (e-cars) has caught our imagination.

From a purely political standpoint it would suggest that the Green Party is revamping our energy and transportation sectors. This was part of its input into the Programme for Government.

The Greens are aiming ultimately at developing an emissions-free transportation system. That is ultimately a worthy goal, but in terms of transportation maybe we should be asking if the latest move is not akin to putting the cart before the horse.
