I’m one of Garret’s ‘economic refugees’

YOUR columnist Ryle Dwyer (March 27) writes glowingly about Garret FitzGerald’s record in the 1980s.

Well, by the time he and Dick Spring had left office in 1987, unemployment was at 17.5% and 200,000 people, myself included, had been turned into economic refugees.

If that’s success, let’s hope we never experience Ryle Dwyer’s idea of failure.
