Cheap shots at ferry

WHEN the floodwaters rose in Athlone last November local people, local businesses and local newspapers all rallied around, the wagons were circled and the community pulled through.

I was very disappointed to read the tone of letters (March 6) concerning the new Cork-Swansea ferry service. One thing that was not done in Athlone was to have a cheap shot at anyone — it’s easy to quote Oscar Wilde selectively, as one of your letter-writers did.

To all involved in the new ferry service, to all in the co-op and in Fastnet Lines, well done.

Circle the wagons, the Julia will soon sail proudly into Cork and the great work of the hospitality industry in west Cork will continue.
