Cuba’s lesson

THE recent revelations that our children’s literacy ratings are average within the OECD and that we are falling behind in science and maths again highlight huge problems within the education system.

Cuba has a fantastic education system, based around the teachings of Don José Julian Marti y Perez, a system that emphasises mutual community cooperation, not competition.

If we are to improve on what we have, then surely it behoves us to look to examples around the world. I merely ask that we look at Cuba and discuss its educational merits.
