ACCORDING to Tánaiste and Enterprise Minister Mary Coughlan, “Government policies” led to an abundance of job creation in Ireland (speech, June 4, 2004) during the so-called Celtic Tiger period while “external factors” led to jobs being lost in our economy.

Surely the reasons why Ryanair decided to move 200 engineering jobs to Scotland — instead of providing them at Dublin airport — are not only because of generally inadequate Government policies, but also because of the questionable policy of her own department on this issue.

We should also ask again where was Transport Minister Noel Dempsey when this debacle unfolded?
