THOSE involved in the charity GOAL should be praised highly for their efforts in Haiti, and indeed throughout the world.

However, John O’Shea’s comments on the security situation in Haiti are disappointing. He has stated that the aid the Irish people have generously donated couldn’t get in until the security situation improved. His blunt style and lack of deference to politicians has always been appreciated, but his position appears to be based on the focus on isolated violent incidents in some of the more hysterical media.

Journalist after journalist on the ground has reported that the situation is calm, that people are angry, but not at those who have come to help and, most importantly, that the aid is needed immediately.
