12,000 empty rooms and no place to live

WE are told there are 12,000 hotel guest rooms for which there is no demand. Some suggest reducing the price will solve the problem. I think the reduction would have to be huge to fill 12,000 rooms.

12,000 empty rooms and no place to live

Why were developers given loans by banks to build hotels that were not necessary. I believe there was no plan by the Government to restrict construction to what the country needed, rather than what a bunch of pampered, egotistical developers wanted to build.

When these unneeded hotels were being built there was a virtual halt to building council houses, and there are now at least 100,000 people waiting for a local authority house with no chance of getting one soon, if at all. These people have been abandoned, their right to a home denied. It is a thundering disgrace.
