Why show corpses of earthquake victims?

WHILE I appreciate the need to tell the world of the horrors unfolding in Haiti, I find it difficult to justify the use of photos of contorted bodies trapped in rubble and lying in the streets.

Why show corpses of earthquake victims?

In the aftermath of a fatal car crash we are shown photos of the wreckage, but the unfortunate victims are spared the indignity of being pictured for public viewing. Why is this dignity not afforded to the innocent victims of this natural disaster?
