Dangerous weather - Let sense prevail

THOUGH we seem utterly unprepared for this kind of weather, we are still largely responsible for our own actions and their consequences.

That is why, as long as this hard weather persists, we should apply new criteria to the words “essential” and “journey”. Taking Johnny or Mary to a football match is not essential. Going to a film or the hairdresser is not essential though either might be cheering.

We have been warned by myriad sources that all but essential travelling should be avoided and we should heed those warnings. Getting to and from work or schools will be hard enough for many of us.

We should not put ourselves, or those who might have to rescue us, at risk because we decide to go on a jaunt that could easily be deferred.

If we ignore these warnings we may be a danger to ourselves and other road users and none of us are entitled to be that for anything other than the most pressing reasons.
