Give us a break

IF there is one thing remotely comparable to the episodes of abuse outlined in the Murphy report, it’s the unending litany of anti-Catholic bigotry subsequently emerging in much of the media commentary.

The Roman Catholic community is already hurting enough as a result of the abuse itself and the fact that much of it could have been avoided but for appalling dereliction of duty.

Pope Benedict has eloquently articulated our sense of shame and betrayal, so please give us a break.
