THE parish priest of Castlegregory, Fr Seán Sheehy, should be ashamed of himself. At a time when the Catholic Church is on its knees, churchgoers need to feel that the serving clergy are honourable and trustworthy.

His character reference for a convicted sex offender only serves to raise questions about the current attitudes and values of the clergy and further alienate churchgoers.

I would find it hard to pay much heed to Fr Sheehy’s sermons.
