Two amazing women who gave it their all

I WISH to congratulate Hilda Kawuki and Sharon Commins for having been so resilient during all those weeks of uncertainty and fear while held hostage in Sudan.

Ransom or no ransom, we deeply thank whoever has been working very hard behind the scenes to free these two amazing women.

The immense joy of their families is easily understood and shared in.

One cannot predict what a band of bored, desperate warmongers, armed with imported machineguns, all adorned with bullets as if they were beads, might decide to do to two young, vibrant but seemingly helpless female foreign aid workers. Either way, we thank goodness for saving these two lives. Their stories will be encouraging to all who believe in dialogue, in the rule of law, in democracy, in meaningful voting and in nation-building.

Congratulations to Hilda Kawuki and Sharon Commins. Thank you for sticking it out, for standing together and most importantly, thank you for daring to make a difference in the lives of the almost totally forgotten and humiliated people of Darfur.
