Kidnap ordeal ends - Welcome home Sharon

AID worker Sharon Commins arrived home late last night after a terrible few months.

Kidnap ordeal ends - Welcome home Sharon

Ms Commins’s kidnap ordeal, and that of Hilda Kawuki, stretched over 107 days. They were snatched from their Goal compound in Darfur by an armed gang in July.

Yesterday Ms Commins revealed her abductors staged mock assassinations by shooting around her.

Those who through their diplomatic efforts secured the release of the two women are to be congratulated and thanked for their achievement.

Some people considering joining one of the many development organisations doing so much good work might now reconsider their plans.

That would be a pity as Darfur is one of the more dangerous places for aid workers. There are many, many centres where aid workers can make a contribution to the local communities in complete safety. This is important work and those considering it should not base decisions on exceptional circumstances.
