IF Ireland is to get out of this recession and be competitive in the future it is very important that expenditure on education is both sufficient and efficient. Yet it is reported that only half of the budget earmarked for spending on educational infrastructure is spent.

Rather than reprimanding a school principal for initiatives she had taken in running the school for which she has responsibility, the Minister for Education would be better employed ensuring that the resources, which he is given by the Irish taxpayers, are spent to the best advantage of the education of students.
