EU – we’ve given more than we got
It was good to read the way she put the case, especially the very relevant comment on Simon Coveney TD and his support for Turkey becoming an EU member in the future.
When you consider all that the Government has got wrong there is no reason why voters should take direction from that quarter, or from ISME and IBEC, both of which believe the minimum wage is far too much to earn to keep a family afloat today.
Where is this so-called “centre” of Europe that is being spoken about?
Would somebody show me what any of our commissioners to date produced for us? At this point would somebody tell the people of Cork, Limerick and Waterford for example, when will all the jobs that have been lost be replaced? Live horse and get grass is not an option for the unemployed now.
Like it or not, Ireland has paid a big price for Europe – that is, of course, the working people, not the politicians. We can hardly catch a fish, farming is restricted and the price we’ve paid far outweighs all we got in return.
We are members of the EU – we are not voting to exit the union. They tell us the union will be more democratic as a consequence of a Yes vote, yet they won’t request theother member states to ask their people to vote on it.
They have told us they will not accept the last democratic decision. What part of that indicates greater democracy?
As it is, we are stuck with Europe now. Like it or not, Europe or the world economic order will not collapse if the union stays as it is.
