County roads are still in the dark ages

RECENTLY I had the amazing experience of visiting ancient Pompeii. The 2,000-year-old ruins show traces of what we might consider to be modern innovations in city living.

County roads are still in the dark ages

In particular I noticed the reflective stone lines used in footpaths to guide pedestrians by candlelight at night.

Fast forward to 21st century Ireland where at night time I find it very hard to see where I’m going or what’s happening on almost every road in Co Cork.
