County roads are still in the dark ages

RECENTLY I had the amazing experience of visiting ancient Pompeii. The 2,000-year-old ruins show traces of what we might consider to be modern innovations in city living.

In particular I noticed the reflective stone lines used in footpaths to guide pedestrians by candlelight at night.

Fast forward to 21st century Ireland where at night time I find it very hard to see where I’m going or what’s happening on almost every road in Co Cork.

No reflectors of any kind, and a severe lack of painted lines. We’ve all noticed the vast improvement in visibility when one crosses the border with Co Waterford. Perhaps Cork County Council might realise that we no longer live in the dark ages.
