End blasphemy law

ACCORDING to a recent media report, Pakistan’s Catholic bishops have called for an end to that country’s blasphemy law.

The call comes in the wake brutal attacks against Christians by Muslims who, it is claimed, are using the law as a justification for the attacks.

It is clear the enactment of such laws provides the seed from which violence can grow. Irish bishops should now demand the removal of the recent Irish blasphemy laws from the statute books.
