Ahern’s good move on home repossessions

I am pleased Justice Minister Dermot Ahern intends to make it mandatory that home repossession actions be lodged firstly at the Circuit Court.

The minister, I understand, is to ban lenders form going directly to the expensive High Court to seize properties from borrowers who have fallen behind with payments.

I have had four such cases in the east Cork region in recent times where mortgage lenders are seeking repossessions in the High Court – a practice that currently is their right. This is placing homeowners who want to make genuine efforts to save their homes at a major disadvantage.
