Disability grants - A lifeline in jeopardy

ONE of the greatest life-long challenges a parent or a family can face are obligations involved in providing for the needs of a disabled child or sibling.

Today we report on a huge increase in the number of rejections of grant applications by parents of disabled children.

Over the last while we’ve heard lobby groups argue that their particular cause is essential.

Many are, but we have heard many arguments for services that are expendable.

Anyone who has cared for a disabled child will know that these grants and services are often the difference between a tolerable situation and daily chaos.

The implications of that understanding are obvious.
