Driving dangerously - Why not a ban for texting?

YOU do not have to be an expert to realise that sending text messaging while driving is stupid and represents a threat far greater than any benefits it offers.

We are all familiar with the drivers we see texting, sometimes even with children in the car, sometimes drinking a coffee as well. Does this happen because of indifference or ignorance? Or, does this happen because there are not effective deterrents?

A report published in America yesterday warned that texting while driving increases the risk of a crash or a near crash more than 23 times. This is emphatic and quantifies clearly the threat posed to innocent road users by those who insist on texting while at the wheel.

If you drink and drive you get a mandatory ban. Why not for texting? After all it’s just as dangerous.
