Raw mineral export a national scandal

THE closure of so many multinational firms highlights once again our dependence on overseas companies to provide jobs.

Again ministers will promise the workers a taskforce whose job it will be to try to attract another multinational. Unfortunately, too many workers have earned their last pay packet.

With almost 414,000 now unemployed it is scandalous that the mineral wealth which Ireland has in abundance is being exported without any thought to providing any long-term benefit to the Irish people.
